Digital Desk, Delhi. India got two medals in the Javelin Throw final of the Commonwealth Games. Star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra won silver and Yashveer Singh won bronze. Rumesh Pathiraje of Sri Lanka won the gold medal. In this thrilling competition, Pathiraje secured the first position by throwing 89.75 meters. Neeraj came second with 85.83 meters and Yashveer came third with 85.41 meters. Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan could not make it to the top-8 and returned empty-handed.
Such was the performance of Neeraj Chopra
Neeraj Chopra threw the javelin 80.97 meters in his first attempt. In his second attempt, he threw 85.83 meters, his best throw of the season. However, Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage made a spectacular performance with a massive throw of 89.75 meters, leaving Neeraj Chopra behind in the race for the gold medal. Neeraj then managed only 81.29 meters and 80.73 meters in his next two attempts.
Apart from Neeraj and Yash Vir, India’s Rohit Yadav also reached the final. He finished seventh with a throw of 81.56m.
India ranked 10th in the medal tally
India’s total medal haul at the 2026 Commonwealth Games has reached 23, including five gold, 12 silver, and six bronze medals. With this, India has reached 10th place in the medal tally. Australia leads with 128 medals, including 55 gold.
