Cricket will be played in T20 format in 2028 Olympics
Cricket will be played in T20 format in the 2028 Olympics. The special thing is that only 6 men and 6 women teams from all over the world will get a chance to play in this Olympics. For this, teams are being selected from different continents like Asia, Africa, Europe and Oceania.
America may get direct entry
Being the host, the USA men’s and women’s cricket team can get direct entry into the Olympics, but for this there is a small condition that they will have to be included in the top 15 teams of the world in the ICC T20 rankings between 30 June 2026 and 31 December 2026. In such a situation, if the USA team is not successful in making it to the top-15, then they will not get direct entry. That place will be given to the second best team in the ranking.
The final place will be decided through qualifiers
The first 5 teams to participate in the Olympics will be decided on the basis of ICC men’s ranking and performance in the current tournaments, but to select the sixth and last team, a special ‘ICC Olympic Qualifier’ tournament will be organized next year in 2027. A total of 8 teams will participate in this qualifier tournament and only the team that wins this tournament will get a chance to play in the Olympics.
