India’s tour will begin on October 22 with a T20 match. According to reports, the selection meeting was earlier scheduled to be held on October 5, but has been pushed forward as the fitness report of fast bowler Ishan Krishna is awaited.

The biggest challenge facing selectors is the overlapping schedule of matches. The India-A series in New Zealand is scheduled to start from October 24, which will be played alongside the T20I and ODI series.

These things will be taken into consideration while making the selection

The selectors’ first priority will be to give key players in the Test team more practice with the red ball in New Zealand conditions. Rishabh Pant now only plays test cricket. He will play at least one India-A match to strengthen Test preparations. KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal and Sai Sudarshan will also feature in at least one India-A match. KL Rahul will join the ODI squad in Auckland after playing his first India-A match from October 24.

Jasprit Bumrah’s workload will be monitored

According to reports, the team management wants Jasprit Bumrah’s workload to be gradually increased ahead of the Wellington Test. However, playing him in India-A matches may weaken the ODI team. On the other hand, some officials are not even in favor of making Bumrah work hard in the Ranji Trophy. So there is a possibility that Bumrah will not be a part of the India-A team.

On the other hand, Bengal fast bowler Mukesh Kumar, who took 8 wickets against Jammu-Kashmir in the Irani Cup, may shine. He is likely to be picked for all three matches of India-A.

Akash Deep will also play some matches to prepare for the Test matches. Apart from this, some of the fast bowlers may be retained in New Zealand for the Test team’s net practice after the India-A series is over.

Mayank Yadav, on the other hand, is impressing the selectors with his quick pace and improving fitness to bowl long spells and could find a place in the ODI squad. Apart from this, Rituraj Gaekwad, Naman Dhir and Kumar Kushagra can also be included in the ODI setup.
