Pakistan's actions on land, in the air and now in the sea are constantly testing India's patience. A Pakistan Navy ship crossed the border and rammed an Indian Navy ship yesterday. This increased the tension between the two countries. But by doing this, it is being said that Pakistan has axed itself. The Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi informed the concerned Pakistani High Commission in this regard. Although India suffered no damage, Pakistan violated the 35-year-old treaty.
An agreement was signed between India and Pakistan in April 1991. Recent events have resulted in a direct violation of Article 10 of this Agreement. This 1991 agreement deals with the provision of advance information on military exercises, maneuvers and military movements. In the past, both countries have cited Article 10 of the treaty in relation to maritime incidents.

What is that deal?
According to Article 10 of the April 1991 Indo-Pakistan Agreement on Military Exercises, Maneuvers and Advance Notification of Military Movements, it was agreed that naval vessels and submarines of both countries should not come closer than 3 nautical miles to each other while operating in international waters to avoid any accidents.
The agreement was signed under Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) to reduce military tensions between India and Pakistan, as well as to remove misunderstandings and avoid accidental border clashes. The agreement obliges both countries to give advance notice to each other before any major military drills, military movements or military exercises near their borders. This ensures that border forces remain alert and do not treat it as a threat.

It was signed at New Delhi on 6 April 1991. Its purpose is to reduce the risk of misunderstandings, collisions or accidents during maritime and military operations. According to Article 10, the minimum distance between ships or submarines within international maritime limits is mandatory to be at least 3 nautical miles.
What exactly happened?
But on Tuesday evening, an Indian warship suddenly encountered a Pakistan Navy ship in the Arabian Sea. Pakistan deliberately attempted dangerous and high-speed maneuvers, which resulted in a minor collision. The incident took place in the international maritime boundary. No major casualties were reported.
India has strongly condemned the incident. The envoy in charge of the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi was summoned to lodge a strong protest against the reckless and unprofessional behavior of the Pakistan Navy. India has urged Pakistan to take proper precautions when its military ships are at sea. Additionally, the relevant agreements between the two countries must be followed to avoid such incidents in the future.
