India shines in Asian Para Games: Praveen wins gold, Bunty wins silver; Sheetal-Payal pair also won silver

Aichi-Nagoya (Japan): Indian players continue to perform brilliantly in the Asian Para Games. Indian athlete Praveen Kumar won the gold medal in the men's high jump T64 event, while Bunty won the silver medal. At the same time, in the compound women's doubles, the pair of Sheetal Devi and Payal Nag had to be satisfied with the silver medal.

Sheetal-Payal won silver

The Indian pair of Sheetal Devi and Payal Nag suffered a 141-150 defeat against China's Xu Xueqing and Zhao Jing in the compound women's doubles final. With this the Indian pair won the silver medal.

Sheetal, who was born without hands, shot many excellent arrows in the competition and scored 10 points four times. However, Payal could not perform like her partner. He scored seven points on his last arrow, whereas his earlier scores had been nine and eight points.

The Indian pair appeared to be under pressure from the Chinese players from the very beginning. Despite this both of them won silver medals.

This is Sheetal's second consecutive silver medal in the Asian Para Games. In the last Asian Para Games, he had achieved second place by pairing with Sarita Devi. Now he is expected to win a gold medal in the individual event also.

Sheetal Devi, a resident of Loidhar village in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district, was born without arms due to a rare congenital condition called phocomelia. At the age of eight, Payal came in contact with an 11,000 volt high-tension power line, due to which her hands and legs had to be amputated.

Indians missed bronze in men's doubles

In the compound men's doubles, the Indian pair of Toman Kumar and Shyam Sundar Swamy missed out on a bronze medal. They lost 153-154 in a very close match against China's Ai Xinliang and Zhang Yicheng.

Praveen Kumar broke his own record

In athletics, Praveen Kumar performed brilliantly and won the gold medal in the men's high jump T64 event. Praveen created a new Games record by jumping 2.05 meters.

Praveen bettered his own previous Games record of 2.02 meters in the same event. Meanwhile, India's Bunty won the silver medal with his best jump till date of 1.92 metres.

In this way, along with gold and silver in high jump, a silver medal in compound women's doubles was also added to India's account in the Asian Para Games on the same day.
