According to news agencies, the team’s key fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has not fully recovered from his injury, making him unlikely to be part of the tour. According to BCCI sources, Bumrah is still recovering from an impact injury, and the medical team is reluctant to rush him onto the field.
However, this is surprising news because two days ago, on July 31st, news agencies reported that Bumrah had passed the fitness test and was ready to play in Sri Lanka. Now, this report has disappointed Indian fans. To reach the World Test Championship 2025-27 Final, India must win the Test series against Sri Lanka at all costs.
BCCI not taking any chances
According to sources, Bumrah’s knee swelling is more severe than initially anticipated. He is currently under the supervision of the medical team at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Although it was expected that he would be fit and back within two weeks, he is still experiencing discomfort in his knee.
The BCCI’s sports science team does not want to rush Bumrah’s return. Given the Indian team’s busy international schedule in the coming months, the medical team is not in favor of taking any risks. Even if Bumrah is fit before the first Test, the final decision on his Test participation will be taken based on his performance and fitness.
India’s bowling will be affected.
Long spells may be required on Sri Lanka’s flat wickets, significantly increasing Bumrah’s workload. Therefore, the medical team currently favors resting him. Bumrah’s absence is considered a major blow to the Indian fast bowling attack. His ability to take wickets with the new ball and put pressure on opposition batsmen with long spells is crucial for the team. His experience could also be very useful for India in Sri Lankan conditions. Now, the selectors and team management will have to rely on another fast bowler in his place. Who could replace Bumrah?
