India UNSC Campaign: Jaishankar will start India’s campaign for UNSC seat, will also meet UN Secretary General
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar (S. Jaishankar) next week united nations security council (UNSC) will formally launch India’s campaign to secure temporary membership for the 2028-29 term. During this time he will also meet UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres at the United Nations Headquarters. After this he will leave for Brussels to participate in important meetings with the leaders of the European Union.
India’s campaign will be launched at UN Headquarters
The External Affairs Minister will launch India’s official campaign for the 2028-29 term at a special event organized at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Monday. This campaign is being launched keeping in mind the Security Council elections to be held next year.
Will hold bilateral talks with Guterres India UNSC Campaign
According to the UN programme, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres will meet Jaishankar on Monday afternoon local time. During this period, various issues related to global security, multilateral cooperation and the United Nations are likely to be discussed.
Will compete with Tajikistan
Elections for the 2028-29 term of the United Nations Security Council will be held in June next year. India and Tajikistan will face each other for the sole seat of the Asia-Pacific Group. India had earlier been a non-permanent member during the 2021-22 term.
Elections will be held amid global crises
This time the Security Council elections are being held at a time when the world is facing major geopolitical crises like Ukraine War, Gaza Conflict and Iran Conflict. In such a situation, the role of the Security Council is being considered more important.
India UNSC Campaign will also hold important meetings in Brussels
After the United Nations program, Jaishankar will participate in the third India-EU Trade and Technology Council meeting to be held in Brussels on July 14 and 15. During this, he will discuss bilateral relations, trade and technical cooperation with his counterparts from the European Union and Belgium.
