Hardik-Rohit’s fitness stuck before ODI series, will have to give test in COE even after being selected in the team

IND vs AFG ODI: The Indian team has been announced for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan starting from June 13, but there is still suspense over the performance of star all-rounder Hardik Pandya and opener Rohit Sharma. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made it clear that both these greats will have to take the green signal from the Center of Excellence in Bengaluru before being included in the final eleven.

Hardik will have to spend a week, Rohit’s fitness will also be monitored

While captaining Mumbai Indians during IPL 2026, Hardik Pandya was suffering from back spasm problem, due to which he remained out of some matches. Hardik has reached Bengaluru on June 2, where he will have to undergo rigorous fitness drills and physical assessment for about a week. They will be able to take the field only after getting the green signal from doctors and trainers. Hardik played his last ODI in the final of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 last year.

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma was also troubled by a hamstring injury during the IPL, due to which BCCI has also asked him to report to the COE. However, Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene claims that Rohit is now 100 percent fit and his use as an impact player in the IPL was just a strategic decision and not a compulsion of fitness.

This series is very important for this young and experienced mixed team captained by Shubman Gill. The first ODI between India and Afghanistan will be played on June 13 in Dharamshala, the second on June 17 in Lucknow and the last match on June 20 in Chennai. If Hardik and Rohit pass the fitness test on time, the Indian team will get tremendous strength in the middle order and opening.
