Dubai: The champion team of Women’s Asia Cup 2026 will be decided on September 13. India and Sri Lanka will face each other in the title match. Team India has made it to the final by defeating Bangladesh, while Sri Lanka got the ticket for the title match by defeating Pakistan by 4 wickets in the second semi-final. India and Sri Lanka have not yet faced each other in the tournament. In such a situation, both the teams will face each other directly in the final.
Pakistan lost despite Fatima Sana’s innings
Pakistan batted first in the second semi-final played on Friday, 11 September at the Dubai International Stadium. Captain Fatima Sana played a brilliant inning of 47 runs in 36 balls and took the team to the score of 130 runs. For Sri Lanka, captain Chamri Atapattu and Chamudi Praboda took two wickets each.
Sri Lanka had a very poor start while chasing the target. Fatima Sana put Sri Lanka under pressure by dismissing Chamri Atapattu and Sanjana Kavindi on consecutive balls in the second over of the innings.
Four wickets for 33 runs, then the match changed
Sri Lanka had lost four wickets on the score of just 33 runs. After this, Harshita Samarawickrama and Kavisha Dilhari took charge and brought the team out of trouble by making a partnership of 67 runs. However, in the 17th over, Fatima Sana raised hopes of Pakistan’s comeback by dismissing both the batsmen.
After this Neelakshika Silva and Kushani took over the responsibility. Both of them made an unbeaten 25-run partnership and gave Sri Lanka a thrilling victory by four wickets. Despite the excellent bowling and batting of Fatima Sana, Pakistan could not make it to the final.
India-Sri Lanka final for the third consecutive time
With this victory of Sri Lanka, the clash between India and Sri Lanka has been fixed for the third consecutive time in the final of the Women’s Asia Cup. Earlier also in 2022 and 2024, both the teams have come face to face in the title match. India won the 2022 final, while Sri Lanka won in 2024.
Opportunity to settle the score of defeat of 2024
Now Team India has a chance to equalize the score of the previous defeat against Sri Lanka. In the final of Asia Cup 2024 played in Dambulla, Sri Lanka won the title for the second time by defeating India by eight wickets. In such a situation, the final to be held on September 13 will also be an opportunity for the Indian team to take revenge for the previous defeat.
Team India will now be eyeing to win the Asia Cup title for the fourth time in T20 format and eighth time overall. At the same time, Sri Lanka will take the field against India for the third consecutive time with the intention of playing the final and winning the title.
