Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava met with Nepal’s Prime Minister Balen Shah in Kathmandu on Monday. The two sides discussed various aspects of Nepal-India relations. Ambassador Srivastava conveyed his best wishes to Prime Minister Shah and reiterated India’s commitment to further strengthen bilateral relations with Nepal.
Ambassador Srivastava wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “Honoured to meet the Honourable Prime Minister of Nepal, Balen Shah, on Monday morning. I conveyed warm greetings from Prime Minister Modi. We had a fruitful and productive discussion on further deepening the strong and multifaceted partnership between India and Nepal.”
Prime Minister Shah stressed the need to further deepen the historical ties between the two neighboring countries, Nepal News reported. He also underlined the importance of working together in areas of shared interest.
This is the first time Prime Minister Shah has held a face-to-face bilateral meeting with a foreign diplomat since assuming office nearly four months ago. Previously, Shah had eschewed one-on-one meetings with ambassadors, preferring group interactions over one-on-one meetings.
According to Nepal News report, after the meeting with Srivastava, Prime Minister Shah is going to have a separate one-to-one discussion with Chinese Ambassador Zhang Maoming on Monday itself.
Previously, Nepal’s Prime Minister Balen Shah was invited to visit India upon assuming office. However, he has not yet visited India. Typically, new Nepalese Prime Ministers visit India or China soon after assuming office.
