Indian employee attacked with knife for being Muslim in US, accused said – had intention to murder
Indian Muslim Man Attacked in US: A heartbreaking incident has come to light in Utah, America. An Indian-origin Muslim employee was allegedly attacked with a knife after asking about his religion at Valley Fair Mall in West Valley City. 48-year-old accused Peter Michael Larsen has also confessed to his crime before the police and court.
According to the information, Larsen told the police that he attacked the victim only because he was a Muslim. He also reportedly said that his intention was to kill a Muslim person.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Monday, July 13, 2026. Larson first approached the victim and began a casual conversation. During this time he asked him about his religion. When the victim told that he was a Muslim, the accused repeatedly attacked him with a knife. According to reports, the victim was stabbed approximately 15 times.
The victim has been identified as Sohail, who worked at Valley Fair Mall. After the incident, he was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Officials have registered a case against the accused under several serious sections including attempt to murder and use of dangerous weapon. He is currently being held in the Salt Lake County Jail.
Sohail is of calm nature
Luna Nunez, an eyewitness to the incident and working in a nearby jewelery store, told the local media that the accused first asked Sohail, where are you from? Sohail replied, I am from India, my name is Sohail. After this the accused asked, are you a Muslim? As soon as Sohail said yes, the accused started attacking him with a knife.
People who know Sohail have described him as a hardworking, calm person and dedicated to his family. Luna Nunez said Sohail does not have health insurance and is the sole breadwinner of his wife and two children.

Sohail’s manager criticized the incident
Sohail’s manager Mohammed Adnan Mohammed strongly condemned the incident, calling it a hate crime. He said, this is a very sad and inhuman incident. There should be no place for any kind of hatred in the society.
