Indian pair shines in ITF J30: Karthika and Ribhav become champions
Lucknow, Read: India’s emerging players Karthika Padmakumar and Ribhav Saroha performed brilliantly and won the singles title in the ITF Junior J30 Lucknow Tennis Tournament held at Vijayant Khand Mini Stadium, Gomtinagar. At the closing ceremony of the competition, chief guest IG Sashastra Seema Bal Ratan Sanjay honored the winners and runners-up. During this, UP Hockey Vice President AK Tripathi, Organizing Secretary Samit Kesari and Organizing Committee Chairman Colonel Naresh Rajora were present.
In the girls’ singles final, third seed Karthika Padmakumar won the title by defeating fourth seed Harsha Karthika Oruganti 6-4, 7-5. The match, which lasted for about two hours and 38 minutes, saw long rallies and strong baseline play between the two players. Karthika displayed excellent composure and aggressive play at crucial junctures.
In the boys’ singles final, Ribhav Saroha defeated qualifier Parthiv Nallagundla 6-0, 6-0 in a one-sided match. Ribhav played fast and aggressively from the beginning and did not give any chance to the opponent to make a comeback. Ribhav, who had won the doubles title a day earlier, also won his second consecutive ITF singles title with this victory. Earlier, he had become the winner of the boys singles category of the ITF J30 tennis tournament held in Bhubaneswar last week.
