India’s ranking in the Global Passport Index 2026 has once again slipped. According to the latest report, Indian passport has now reached 125th position in the list of most powerful passports in the world. After slight improvement in the last few years, it was expected that India could make a place in the top 100 countries, but in the new ranking it has suffered a loss of one place.
According to the report, Indian passport holders currently have the facility of visa-free, visa-on-arrival or easy entry into only 26 countries or territories. At the same time, it is still mandatory for Indian citizens to obtain a visa in advance to travel to most of the major countries of the world.
How was India’s journey from 2021 to 2026?
According to the Global Passport Index, India was ranked 127th during 2021 to 2023. After this, the ranking gradually improved and in 2025 India reached 124th position. However, in the list of 2026, India again slipped one place to 125th position. Due to this decline, India is still out of the list of countries with the top 100 strongest passports in the world.

In the new ranking, Indian passport is ranked below Namibia. At the same time, passports of countries like Philippines, Morocco and Uzbekistan are also considered stronger than India. However, India’s situation remains better than some countries like Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan.
