LPG Tanker to India: Amid continuing tensions in West Asia and rising fuel prices, Marshall Islands flagged tanker ‘Simi’, loaded with around 20,000 tonnes of LPG, arrived at Kandla port on Sunday. This LPG-laden ship left Qatar’s ‘Ras Laffan’ terminal on May 13 carrying LPG for India and crossed the Strait of Hormuz. There are 21 foreign crew members on board this ship flying the flag of Marshall Islands.

Another ship is on the way

For your information, let us tell you that another ship, ‘NV Sunshine’, passed through this strait on Thursday and it is expected to reach New Mangaluru port by May 18. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways also confirmed the movement of these ships during an inter-ministerial briefing on the West Asia crisis in New Delhi. Mukesh Mangal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways said that two LPG carrier ships have passed through the Strait of Hormuz.

He said both ships were loaded with cargo for India and were being operated in coordination with the Indian Oil Corporation to ensure safe transit through this strategic route. With these recent movements, the number of Indian ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz has increased to 13 since tensions escalated in the region. These include 12 LPG tankers and one crude oil tanker.

12 Indian ships stranded in Gulf region

The shipping route has faced disruptions since the US and Israeli attacks on Iran more than two months ago, and Tehran’s retaliatory actions.
