Indian U-19 team: Haldwani’s Lakshya Raichandani becomes vice-captain of Indian Under-19 team, selected in the team for Sri Lanka tour

Haldwani, Read: Haldwani’s young cricketer Lakshya Raichandani has been selected in the Indian Under-19 cricket team for the Sri Lanka tour. He has also been made the vice-captain of the team. Lakshya will join the team for the national training camp to be held in Bengaluru on June 25, while the Sri Lanka tour matches will begin from July 4. The Indian team will play three ODIs and two four-day (Test) matches in the tour.

Lakshya has attracted the attention of the selectors on the basis of his consistently excellent performances. He has been a part of Uttarakhand Ranji team, India-A and Afghanistan-India B triangular series. Apart from this, he has also played in the 2025-26 Challenger Trophy. Lakshya performed brilliantly with batting in Ranji Trophy. He played important innings of 64 runs against Tripura, 86 runs against Assam in the quarter-finals and 56 runs against Karnataka in the semi-finals.

Earlier in the 2023-24 Vijay Merchant Trophy, Lakshya had scored 833 runs in five matches with the help of a double century, three centuries and two half-centuries. He was the highest run-scorer of the tournament with an average of 138.83. For this brilliant achievement, he also received BCCI’s prestigious Naman Award. In the year 2024-25, he scored 191 runs in the Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy, while in the Cooch Behar Trophy, he scored 396 runs with the help of one century and two half-centuries. In the 2025-26 Vinoo Mankad Trophy, he once again showcased his talent by scoring 308 runs in five matches.

On the selection of the target, many sports lovers and officials including Cricket Association of Uttarakhand President Deepak Mehra, District Nainital Cricket Association President Sumit Hridayesh, Cricket Association of Almora Secretary Harsh Goyal have congratulated him.
