Shooter Jaspal Rana Record: Jaspal Rana, who gave India international recognition in shooting, is no more. Former Indian shooter and veteran shooting coach Jaspal Rana died on Friday at the age of 49. Jaspal was a former Asian Games gold medalist and also played an important role in the success of Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker.

Jaspal Rana was born on 28 June 1976 in a Garhwali family of Uttarakhand. His father Narayan Singh Rana was a former army officer, who later became the first Sports Minister of Uttarakhand. Jaspal Rana inherited shooting. At the young age of 12, he showed his talent at the international level. In his journey, his father became his first coach.

Jaspal Rana’s career

Jaspal Rana won many medals in the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Asian Championships during his career and made his mark in the world as India’s powerful shooter. In his illustrious career, he represented India in four editions of the Commonwealth Games – 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2006 and won a total of 15 medals.

These included 9 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals. Apart from this, he also won many medals for the country in the Asian Games. He won a total of 8 medals in the Asian Games of 1994, 1998 and 2006.

Jaspal Rana gave training to Manu Bhakar

Under the supervision of Jaspal Rana, Manu Bhakar performed brilliantly and won two gold medals in the Paris Olympics. Manu became the first Indian shooter to achieve this feat. Jaspal was also honored with the Dronacharya Award in the year 2020 for his contribution as a coach.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and other stalwarts of the country expressed grief over his demise. National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) president Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, while speaking to IANS, expressed grief over Jaspal’s demise. He said, “This is a huge loss. He was not only a champion shooter but also a great mentor. He will always be in our memories.”

Big shock for India

Jaspal Rana’s demise is a huge blow to Indian shooting. During his career, he brought recognition to the sport in India and inspired the younger generation to pursue a career in shooting. Shooter Manu Bhaker, who won a medal for India in the Olympics, is an example of his training.

According to reports, Jaspal was returning from Germany after the ISSF World Cup held in Munich and during this his health suddenly deteriorated, after which he was admitted to a hospital in Delhi. He was currently working as the high performance coach of Indian pistol shooters. Under his leadership, the Indian team was successful in winning two gold and two silver medals in this tournament.
