‘Indians lost their lives, it is our duty to protect the sailors!’ PM Modi gave a strong message to the world from the G-7 platform
At a time when the entire world is grappling with dangerous geopolitical tensions, trade disputes and a severe energy crisis, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again shown the way to the world from the global stage. From the platform of G-7 summit, PM Modi has given a big call for restoration of mutual trust at the international level. He said in clear words that today the whole world is not struggling with lack of resources, but with lack of trust and confidence among themselves. He stressed that all future partnerships and whatever new arrangements will be made should be based only on mutual trust. Referring to the Indian principle of ‘Sarvajan Hitay and Sarvajan Sukhay’, PM Modi advocated international partnership and global development based on trust.
Addressing a special session on ‘Building new partnerships and restoring international solidarity’ during the G-7 summit, PM Modi said, “Today’s world is more interconnected and interdependent than ever before. The energy security, food security, health security, cyber security and economic progress of any country can no longer be determined only within its own borders. Movement of people, data, capital and new technology, all these things are connecting us with each other. The importance of partnerships has increased greatly in challenging times, but any partnership can be successful only when there is strong trust between them.
Gave a powerful message while sitting next to US President Donald Trump
During the session, Prime Minister Modi, sitting right next to US President Donald Trump, said in front of the world’s most powerful leaders, “In today’s times, the most valuable asset is not a mineral, a new technology or a big market; but the most important thing is mutual trust. There should be trust that technology and supply chains should be used for the good of the entire world instead of being used as weapons against anyone. There should be trust that the best opportunities for development are available only to a select few.” Do not be limited to countries. There should also be confidence that global institutions are fully capable of fulfilling the aspirations of all the countries of the world.
Putting forward India’s thinking, PM Modi said that India believes that the real test of any partnership is not in what we are building for others, but in what we are helping others to build for themselves. Our own experience shows that development is most effective and successful when it is directly linked to the expectations of the common people. India’s approach to international partnerships has always been based on the philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the whole world is one family).
PM Modi’s speech in the eyes of diplomatic experts
Diplomatic experts around the world believe that perhaps for the first time in recent decades, the Indian Prime Minister has given such importance to mutual ‘trust’ in global partnership and India’s long-term diplomatic interests are also hidden behind this. Since today’s world is very much interconnected, the dispute in West Asia is the biggest example of this. Due to mutual conflict between just two-three countries, today a huge crisis of energy, oil and fertilizer has arisen in the entire world.
Giving the example of the two terrible world wars that took place in the last century, PM Modi explained that the real reason behind the international system that was created for global peace after those wars was mutual trust, which is now gradually ending. Modi bluntly said, “The Covid pandemic has proved the tall claims of trust and solidarity in the world to be completely hollow.” Along with this, he quoted a famous statement of former US President Ronald Reagan and said, “Believe it, but also check its authenticity.”
PM Modi also strongly raised the issue of ‘Global South’ (developing and poor countries) from this big platform. He said that the countries of the Global South now want to move beyond the old thinking of ‘donor and recipient’ (begging and taker). They now want to join the world as equal partners. International partnerships must always be based on respect rather than dependence.
Shared ‘family photo’ with senior G-7 leaders
Let us tell you that this time India has been invited to the G-7 summit as a special guest country (outreach country). Prime Minister Modi is becoming a part of this very prestigious summit for the seventh consecutive time. During the traditional ‘family photo’ of the conference, Prime Minister Modi was seen interacting very warmly with many of the world’s leading leaders.
Regarding this special meeting, PM Modi shared the pictures on the social media platform ‘X’ (earlier Twitter) and wrote, “Pictures just before the start of the proceedings of the G-7 summit in Evian this afternoon. It is always very informative and pleasant to exchange views with the leaders of the G-7 countries. We will continue to work together to advance prosperity, sustainable development and human welfare in the world.”
Ensure seafarers can work without fear
At the end of his address, Prime Minister Modi welcomed the efforts being made for peace in West Asia, but along with this he also expressed deep sorrow and strong protest over the disruption of maritime trade in the Strait of Hormuz and the death of Indian citizens there.
He said in a very serious tone, “Today, due to the obstruction in maritime trade in the Strait of Hormuz, the economy of the entire world has suffered a huge loss. Many innocent citizens of India have lost their lives in this conflict. It is the collective responsibility of all of us to protect these sailors who connect all the countries of the world. We have to ensure at all costs that the international sea routes remain completely safe and our sailors can do their work without any fear or intimidation.”
According to political pundits, this very sharp and important comment of PM Modi has come after the sudden death of three Indian sailors during an attack by the US Army in the Gulf of Oman, which has drawn the attention of the whole world towards this serious issue.
