New Delhi. India has initiated anti-dumping investigation on imports of Glycine from China. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) under the Commerce Ministry has initiated this action following a complaint by domestic company Avid Organics. The company alleges that the domestic industry is being harmed by import of glycine at low prices from China.
Glycine is used to enhance taste in foods as well as in the pharmaceutical industry. Based on the complaint, DGTR will now find out whether the product coming from China is being sold in the Indian market at a price lower than the normal price and how much impact it has had on the domestic manufacturers.
What will happen after investigation?
If the investigation confirms dumping and serious injury to the domestic industry, DGTR may recommend imposition of anti-dumping duty. However, the final decision on implementing the fee will be taken at the level of the Finance Ministry.
Investigation on CPVC resin also
DGTR has also started a separate investigation into CPVC resin coming from China and South Korea. It is alleged that the anti-dumping duty applicable on the products of these countries is being circumvented by importing them through other countries.
DCW, Epigral and Lubrizol Advanced Materials India have alleged that efforts are being made to evade duty by bringing products from China and South Korea to India via Japan, Malaysia and Thailand. CPVC resins are primarily used in industrial piping. Now DGTR will investigate these allegations also.
