India’s defeat in Women’s T20 World Cup, South Africa defeated by 6 wickets, road to semi-finals difficult


New Delhi . In the Women’s T20 World Cup, the Indian women’s cricket team has faced defeat by 6 wickets in an important match against South Africa. After this defeat, India’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals have suffered a big blow and the equation of the group stage has now become even more difficult.

The match was played at the Old Trafford ground in Manchester where the Indian team, batting first, scored 158 runs after losing 7 wickets. No batsman from India played a big innings and the team kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Deepti Sharma scored the maximum of 29 runs while Yastika Bhatia contributed 15 runs, Jemimah Rodrigues contributed 12 runs and captain Harmanpreet Kaur contributed 24 runs.

South Africa’s start to chase the target was also not good, captain Laura Wolvaardt was out after scoring 20 runs, but after this, Tajmin Britts played an important inning of 40 runs and took control of the team and brought the match into balance.

After this, Marizanne Cap put pressure on the Indian bowlers by batting brilliantly. Cap played a stormy inning of 81 runs in just 45 balls which included 4 sixes and 7 fours. Her innings completely changed the course of the match and victory slipped from India’s hands.

Marizanne Kapp contributed not only in batting but also in bowling and took 2 important wickets. Her all-round performance overshadowed India and South Africa achieved the target with 5 balls remaining.




  • With this defeat, the Indian team remains at the second position in Group A but the path to the semi-finals has now become difficult. Australia is on top with 6 points while India has 4 points and Pakistan is out of the tournament.
