Desk: The use of Artificial Intelligence i.e. AI is increasing rapidly in India. Meanwhile, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has received a huge order in the field of AI infrastructure. The company said that it has received orders worth about ₹10,000 crore to ₹15,000 crore. Under this project, India's largest single-cluster AI infrastructure facility will be created in Chennai.
10,000 NVIDIA B300 GPUs will be installed in this AI factory. This project will be prepared for American AI cloud company Together AI. It will be used on a large scale for tasks like training, data processing, inference and fine-tuning of AI models. This project is also special for L&T because the company is entering the AI Factory business on a large scale for the first time. The company wants to strengthen its presence in the growing market of AI infrastructure.
This project will be developed by L&T's AI infrastructure subsidiary LTN Commute. This company is part of Vyoma.AI. The AI factory will be built in Vyoma's data center campus located in Chennai. This campus in Chennai is planned to become a gigawatt-scale AI infrastructure site in future. The capacity of its first phase has been kept at 250 MW, while the power infrastructure is being prepared for 150 MVA. With this, the capacity of AI factory can be further increased in future.
This entire infrastructure will include data centers with facilities like high-performance computing, fast networking, low latency interconnects, parallel storage and AI operations. Its purpose is to provide companies the facility to start AI workload from a single platform and scale it up as per the need.
L&T Chairman and Managing Director SN Subramanian said that AI is now becoming an important part of almost every industry. According to him, this AI factory is an important step towards making India the global hub of next generation AI infrastructure. Vipul Ved Prakash, co-founder and CEO of Together AI, also described the partnership with L&T as important. He said that to make AI available on a large scale in the world, a huge infrastructure will be required.
