Mahindra will be launching the updated Scorpio Classic in India soon. Even after two decades of its launch, the OG Scorpio, or Scorpio Classic as we know it now, has a huge fan base in rural and urban markets. It is often seen as a no-nonsense, highly utilitarian SUV that is capable of taking abuse on our broken and muddy roads. It is a 7-seater SUV, but did you know that a 9-seater version of the Scorpio Classic is also available on sale? Here we have a walkaround video that shows what this variant of the Scorpio Classic offers.
The Scorpio Classic 9-seater is actually based on the S variant, which is the entry-level variant. It is offered as an option for those who are looking for an SUV that is capable of moving large Indian families. The base S variant of the Scorpio Classic gets both 7- and 9-seater options, and the version seen here in the video costs Rs 13.84 lakh, ex-showroom.
The video shows what this particular variant offers. As we all know, this is the base variant, and Mahindra does not offer many features with it. You do not get remote central locking, an infotainment system, auto-dimming IRVMs, speakers, automatic climate control, and so on. Mahindra offers regular dual-barrel halogen headlamps with chrome garnish and halogen turn indicators. There is provision for fog lamps, and the tail lamps are the same D-shaped LED units with halogen reverse lights and turn indicators. There is no roof-mounted spoiler, but it does get a high-mounted stop lamp. It does get power windows for all four windows, hill descent control, manual AC, rear AC vents, and so on.
The SUV gets a basic-looking beige and black-coloured interior theme with ample space for the driver and passengers. While everything on the inside looks the same as the regular Scorpio Classic, what sets this particular variant apart is the last row of seats.
As usual, you get jump seats at the rear, but the seats are slightly longer than the regular version. This has been done intentionally to accommodate two more people. The large windows of the SUV do give the cabin an airy feel, but we do not recommend anyone sit in the last row. Only two adults can sit comfortably here. If you have kids, they may be comfortable here for short journeys. They only get butterfly windows for the last row, and because of the side-facing seats, people won’t be comfortable on long journeys.
The Mahindra Scorpio Classic S 9-seater version also gets the same 2.2-litre mHawk turbo-diesel engine option. This engine generates 130 bhp and 300 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. Mahindra is currently working on the facelift for the Scorpio Classic, and as per recent reports, Mahindra might offer the Scorpio with a sunroof for the first time. It needs to be seen whether Mahindra will continue to offer the 9-seater version with the facelift or not.
