India’s MSV Virat 1 sinks off the coast of Oman, rescue operation intensified to save 14 crew members

Desk. There has been news of sinking of Dhow boat MSV Viraat 1 crewed by Indian nationals, about 80 nautical miles i.e. about 148 kilometers away from Ras Al Hadd in Oman. After this a major sea rescue operation was launched in the Arabian Sea. According to the American Navy, the Dhow boat carrying 14 Indian crew had got into trouble at sea and was in danger of sinking. As soon as the alert was received, Indian authorities immediately started the rescue operation and Indian Navy ships present in the area were sent to the spot.




  • Meanwhile, in a significant step, the American Navy’s P-8 maritime patrol aircraft reached the incident area and dropped a life raft for the stranded crew members. Then, all 14 crew members successfully left the boat and boarded the life raft. During this time, the aircraft kept an eye on their position.

    Know that ‘MV Jabalpur Ali 9’ also helped in the rescue operation. It is a St. Kitts and Nevis-flagged commercial ship which changed course and headed towards the ship in distress. The boat carrying Indian crew members had its previous stop in Sohar in Oman and was on its way to Mumbai.

    According to ‘MV Jabalpur Ali 9’, all 14 Indian crew members have boarded the life raft and are waiting to be rescued. The condition of the crew member is not serious at present and the rescue team is present on the spot to bring them out safely.

    Indian Navy ships are moving towards that area. In addition, there is coordination between international maritime agencies and nearby ships. Officials are monitoring the situation closely. Work is being done to rescue the crew members as soon as possible and take them to a safe place.
