India’s strong bet: BrahMos will roar in Philippines, voice will reach China
News Desk. Defense cooperation between India and the Philippines now seems to be reaching a new level. Amidst the increasing tension in the South China Sea, the Philippines Army is going to conduct simulation firing of Indian-made BrahMos missile for the first time. This move will not only impact regional security equations but will also strengthen India’s strategic role in Asia.
Strength will be seen in Balikatan practice
The simulation firing will be conducted during Exercise Balikatan, the largest annual military exercise between the Philippines and the US. During this, the Philippines Navy will practice the use of BrahMos missile in a maritime attack scenario. For the Philippines, this missile is considered a major addition to its defense capability, especially at a time when its dispute with China over the South China Sea continues.
What is simulation firing?
A simulation firing is a virtual exercise rather than firing a real missile. In this, soldiers learn the process of tracking and engaging enemy targets through computer-based systems and control panels of actual launchers. Its biggest advantage is that without any risk and huge expense, soldiers get real war-like training. This not only maintains security but also saves expensive weapons and ammunition.
Big change in Philippines’ strategy
Philippines has purchased BrahMos missile from India to strengthen its coastal security and maritime defence. This missile can become an important part of its anti-access/area-denial strategy, which will enable it to better monitor and protect its maritime areas. The Coastal Defense Regiment of the Philippines is also participating in this exercise, which will use this technology during joint maritime operations in the Northern Luzon area.
