Indonesia Open 2026: PV Sindhu advances to the second round
India’s top shuttler PV Sindhu advanced to the women’s singles second round of the 2026 Indonesia Open Super 1000 tournament in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The two-time Olympic medalist defeated Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan in straight games 25-23, 21-16, extending her head-to-head dominance to 21-1 in their 22nd meeting.
The 30-year-old, who has shown improved form with back-to-back quarterfinal finishes in recent tournaments, has also re-entered the world top 10 for the first time in 3 years.
She had a good start to the match today, having a 19-15 lead in the first game, but then the Thai shuttler came back and forced extra points.
Sindhu held her composure and won the opening game after a long stretch, saving a game point and taking an early advantage in the match.
The second game was much easier for the Indian shuttler as she maintained her lead from the start and closed out the match in straight games.
On the other hand, the former world medalist Srikanth Kidambi faced a first-round exit in men’s singles to Yuta Tanaka of Japan in straight games, 19-21, 15-21.
