Indonesia wins first SEA Esports Nations Cup, Vietnam finishes runner-up

The inaugural national team-level esports tournament in Southeast Asia brought together 87 athletes from 11 countries. Teams were ranked based on total medal points accumulated throughout the competition.

Under the tournament’s scoring system, individual gold medals were worth 100 points, silver medals 60 points, and bronze medals 30 points. Team events carried higher values, with gold medals worth 150 points, silver 90 points, and bronze 45 points. Duo 2v2 events awarded 120 points for gold, 72 for silver, and 36 for bronze.

Bonus points were applied to women’s events to encourage greater female participation in regional esports.

After two days of competition at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center on May 8 and 9, Indonesia topped the standings with 446 points, followed by Vietnam with 390 points and Thailand with 190 points.

The tournament featured national team competitions in PUBG Mobile, Teamfight Tactics (TFT), Total Football, and Crossfire Legends.

PUBG Mobile produced several closely contested matches. Indonesian players Satar and Yummy won the gold and silver medals in the individual category, while Vietnam’s Nguyen Anh Quan and Phan Van Dong, known as Levis and Win, secured gold in the Duo event after a strong final-round performance.

In Teamfight Tactics, Indonesia’s Ina Nanande won gold in the men’s category. Thailand’s Boomhae took silver, while Quaze of Malaysia and Foeman of Thailand shared bronze. In the women’s category, Singapore’s Cheebies won gold, Vietnam’s Manhdayne claimed silver, and Hoangphanhanh of Vietnam and Ambrosine of Brunei shared bronze.

Vietnam also reached the final in Total Football through representative Doan Trong Tan, known as TunTun. After defeating Myanmar 2-0 in the playoff round and Malaysia 3-2 in the semifinals, he advanced to face Thailand’s Nathayat Satake, known as Jacob. Despite leading 5-2 at one stage, Tan eventually lost 5-6 over two legs. Thailand won gold, Vietnam took silver, and Malaysia and Timor-Leste shared bronze medals.

Crossfire Legends concluded the tournament. Indonesia defeated host nation Vietnam in the final to secure the gold medal, while the Philippines and Malaysia each received bronze.

The SEA Esports Nations Cup is jointly organized by the Southeast Asian Esports Federation (SEAEF), Vietnam GameVerse, and VNGGames. Organizers said the annual tournament aims to establish a more unified and structured esports ecosystem across Southeast Asia while promoting the region’s presence in the international esports industry.

The inaugural edition featured a total prize pool of US$41,000.

Vietnam GameVerse 2026 was held on May 8-9 at SECC in Ho Chi Minh City. The event was directed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and co-organized by the Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information, Read, FPT Online, and the Vietnam Game Alliance.

This year’s event, themed “Do Local – Go Global,” also featured the Vietnam Game Forum, Vietnam Game Awards, the Cosplay Contest 2026 finals, game experience zones, business networking activities, and entertainment programs for the gaming community.
