New Delhi: The prices of many essential commodities have been increasing for the past few days. Especially on the eve of the festive season, there has been a sudden increase in the prices of groceries and food items, which is directly affecting the pockets of the common man. The cost of daily meals has increased, and there are signs that sweets will also become expensive during the upcoming festive season .
The prices of gram, tur, moong, and urad pulses have also increased. Pulses have remained expensive due to fluctuations in production and supply. The impact of the rising prices of sugar, tur, urad, and gram pulses is now being felt in the kitchen of every household. The prices of rice, soybean oil, gram flour, and maida have also increased.
The increase in the cost of production of tea, pulses, sweets and many breakfast items has worsened the monthly budget of the family. The market picture shows that the prices of many essential grocery items of daily use have increased significantly in the last five months.
Sweets likely to become more expensive
If the current situation continues, the prices of sweets may increase during the upcoming festivals. Sugar prices have increased by about 25 percent. Experts believe that the main reasons are low stock availability in the market, persistent demand and increasing pressure on supply. They also say that although some part of the sugarcane is being diverted to ethanol production due to the ethanol policy, sugar has not become expensive only because of that.
Increased expenditure due to pulses
While gram dal is an important part of the daily diet, gram dal is used to make gram flour, farsan, laddu, sweets and many other dishes. Due to the increase in gram dal price, the cost of all these products is increasing. The prices of gram dal, including tur, moong, urad have also increased. Pulses have remained expensive due to fluctuations in production and supply.
Sweet prices likely to increase
The cost of production of sweets like Besan Laddu, Motichur Laddu, Mysore Pak, Barfi etc. has increased due to the increase in the cost of both sugar and gram dal. If the prices of raw materials do not come down, the prices of sweets are likely to increase during Raksha Bandhan, Janmashtami, Ganeshotsav and Diwali.
