Mumbai: Actor Sumeet Raghavan, known for playing Sahil Sarabhai in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and for his recent work in Chumbak, has given fans a glimpse into his warm and personal Mumbai home. Unlike the chaotic Sarabhai household seen on screen, Raghavan’s real-life residence is organised, cosy and filled with objects that reflect his love for music, books, art and cooking.
The actor recently opened the doors of his home to Mashable India, offering a tour of the space and sharing stories about the choices behind its interiors. From musical instruments and awards to framed artwork, antiques and an extensive collection of books, the apartment reflects several of Raghavan’s interests beyond acting.
A living room designed around music
The living room is one of the central spaces in Sumeet’s home and doubles as a place where he can practise music. A harmonium is among the instruments kept there, highlighting the actor’s long-standing interest in music.
The room has predominantly beige walls, with a textured green wall providing a contrasting element. Sumeet explained that the muted colours of the walls allowed him to use darker shades for the upholstery.
The sofa features orange-brown tones, while the cushions have white floral patterns that add another visual element to the room. Warm lighting contributes to the comfortable atmosphere of the space.
The living room also features some of Sumeet’s awards. The actor joked that trophies are an expected part of an actor’s home.
“Since it’s an actor’s home, spotting awards around is normal,” he said.
One section has been specifically set aside for displaying his trophies. The area also features the Preamble to the Constitution of India and a photograph of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, adding a personal and cultural dimension to the display.
The dining area continues the green theme
The green textured wall theme also extends into the dining area. A wooden panel stands opposite it, with a mint-green cabinet positioned at its centre.
The combination gives the dining space a distinct character while maintaining the warm and understated aesthetic seen elsewhere in the apartment.
Rather than opting for an overly elaborate design, the interiors appear to balance practical spaces with objects that have personal significance for the actor.
Sumeet Raghavan’s kitchen reflects his love for cooking
The kitchen is another important part of Sumeet’s home. Unlike the more decorative sections of the apartment, the kitchen has a practical and functional appearance.
The actor revealed that cooking is one of his favourite activities when he is away from shooting.
“I love to cook,” he said, adding that he enjoys preparing Indian, Italian and Chinese food.
Sumeet also spoke about cooking for his children. Whenever his schedule allows, he said he fulfils their requests for dishes such as pasta, risotto and tiramisu.
His interest in food has even taken him to a culinary course. The actor revealed that he once enrolled in a course specifically to learn how to prepare tiramisu.
For Sumeet, learning new skills is also a way of making productive use of the time between acting assignments. He said actors can sometimes have considerable free time and should use it to their advantage.
A separate room dedicated to music
Music has a dedicated space in Sumeet’s apartment. The actor’s music room houses several instruments, including a piano, guitar, ukulele and harmonium.
The room provides a private space for him to practise and explore his musical interests away from the rest of the home.
Music is not his only pursuit outside acting. Sumeet also revealed that he has been learning a new language, adding another skill to the list of interests he has developed over the years.
The apartment also contains framed artwork and antiques collected by the actor over time, giving the residence a lived-in and personal character.
Two flats were combined into one home
Sumeet revealed that the current apartment was created by combining two separate flats — one 2BHK and one 1BHK.
The decision allowed him to create a larger home suited to his family while retaining one of the features that attracted him to the property in the first place.
According to the actor, each room has a balcony, giving the residents access to fresh air. The availability of balconies across the home was one of the reasons he decided to purchase the property.
A bedroom with a sunny accent wall
Sumeet’s bedroom has a sunshine-yellow accent wall that gives the room a brighter appearance.
The bedroom also opens onto a balcony where the actor enjoys sitting down with a cup of tea. He has decorated the outdoor space with plants and fairy lights, creating a relaxed corner away from the main living areas.
The balcony also contains photographs gifted to him by members of his theatre team, adding another personal connection to his long association with theatre and performance.
Books occupy a prominent place
Books are another defining feature of Sumeet’s home.
One wall in the apartment has glass shelves filled with books. However, the actor revealed that the collection visible there represents only around 10 per cent of all the books he owns.
The children’s room has an even larger bookshelf, with bookshelves stretching across two wardrobes.
The extensive collection reflects another side of the actor’s personality and makes reading a significant part of the home’s character.
