In the year 1999, he sacrificed his life while protecting the country in Batalik sector. After his sacrifice, wife Kamala Devi took the responsibility of the family in difficult circumstances and set an example of courage and self-confidence by shaping the future of their son.
Gave supreme sacrifice in Kargil battlefield
Ram Singh Bora, a resident of Bhagartola village in Garud tehsil of Bageshwar district, was posted in 10 Para Special Forces of the Indian Army. During the Kargil war, he participated in many important military operations, fighting bravely against the enemy in the Batalik sector. He attained martyrdom while protecting the borders of the country. When his mortal remains wrapped in the tricolor reached the village in July 1999, the entire area was filled with feelings of grief and pride.
After her husband’s sacrifice, Kamla Devi took every responsibility
At the time of martyrdom, Ram Singh Bora’s wife Kamla Devi had been married for only about one and a half years and was pregnant. A few months later, son Vijay Pratap Singh Bora was born. After the death of her husband, she raised her son single-handedly and struggled continuously to provide him a good education.
Today Vijay Pratap is pursuing higher education and moving forward in his career. Whereas Kamla Devi herself is fulfilling the responsibilities of the family through her work. His struggling journey has become a source of inspiration for many people today.
Memories become fresh again on Kargil Vijay Diwas
Ram Singh Bora’s elder brother Balwant Singh Bora, who is himself retired from the Army, says that the family’s memories come alive again when Kargil Vijay Diwas arrives. All the family members still remember Shaheed Ram Singh with pride and respect. His sisters say that the pain of losing their brother is still as deep, but they are also proud of the fact that he made the supreme sacrifice for the country.
Unfulfilled expectations of village development
After the martyrdom, many announcements were made for the development of the village and in the name of the martyr. Local people say that despite the passage of time, many promises have still not been fulfilled. There is still a need for improvement in higher education, roads and health facilities in the village.
The district administration has assured to respect the martyr family and take necessary steps to solve the problems of the village. Local people believe that honoring the martyrs should not be limited to mere remembrance, but should also be reflected in the development of their villages and empowerment of families.
