Insulting Vande Mataram will no longer suffice! Home Minister Amit Shah is bringing strict bill
The Central Government is going to take a very historic and big step in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. Home Minister Amit Shah is now preparing to introduce a new and strict law to stop the insult of ‘Vande Mataram’. The main objective of this bill to be presented in the Rajya Sabha is to crack down on those who obstruct the singing of our national song ‘Vande Mataram’ or deliberately insult it. The government’s intention is clear that the national song should be respected in the same way as the national anthem.
3 years jail and severe punishment
Under the ‘Prevention of Insults to National Honor (Amendment) Bill, 2026’, if any person intentionally obstructs the singing of Vande Mataram or insults it, he will be considered guilty. For this crime, the culprit can be jailed for up to 3 years. This punishment will be exactly the same as is currently given for insulting the national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’.
After government programs, now preparation for law
Earlier, the Central Government had issued instructions to all the states to mandatorily play or sing Vande Mataram in government programs. Now the government is going to legalize it completely in this monsoon session. According to the government’s strategy, it has been kept on priority in the list of important bills to be brought in the monsoon session. Apart from this, other important bills like Income Tax Amendment and increasing the number of Supreme Court judges will also be introduced in the House. Strategists believe that the government has sufficient numerical strength to pass this bill.
Will get respect equal to national anthem and tricolor
The monsoon session of Parliament will start from July 20 and continue till August 13. After getting the green signal from the Union Cabinet, this bill will be included in the agenda of the Rajya Sabha. If this bill is passed by both the houses of the Parliament, then Vande Mataram will also get the highest legal protection like the national anthem, the national flag and the Indian Constitution. Under the existing law, the strict rules applicable for insulting the national anthem will now be applicable for Vande Mataram as well, which will further strengthen the dignity and security of the national symbols.
