BRICS Summit: of Russia President Vladimir Putin has reached New Delhi to participate in the BRICS Summit. Putin’s plane landed at Palam Air Force Station at around 3 am today. With his arrival, the discussion of new momentum in India-Russia relations has started.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 11 during Putin’s visit to India Modi And an important bilateral meeting is going to be held between the Russian President. In this meeting, many important issues including defense, crude oil, trade and strategic cooperation are likely to be discussed.
Special attention will be paid to three major issues
The Modi-Putin meeting is likely to focus mainly on three issues—defence, crude oil and trade in local currencies.
Defense: A possible deal of Sukhoi-57 fighter jets could be important in the defense cooperation between India and Russia. 75 fifth generation fighter jets are also likely to be discussed. Apart from this, the delivery of S-400 missile defense system and cooperation regarding nuclear submarines may also be reviewed.
Crude Oil: A secure and continuous supply of oil is currently an important issue for India. India may discuss a long-term oil supply agreement with Russia, especially considering the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Local Currency Trade: The two countries may also discuss increasing trade in rupees and rubles while reducing dependence on the dollar. This issue is being given importance from Russia.
A grand reception for Putin in Delhi
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said through a social media post that Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh received Putin at the Delhi airport.
He also mentioned the long standing and special strategic partnership between India and Russia.
What will be Putin’s program today?
According to the Kremlin, Putin will address the plenary session of the annual BRICS Business Forum today. Business representatives of BRICS countries participate in this forum.
Apart from this, Putin will hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Modi. The two leaders are also scheduled to visit the INNOPROM exhibition organized by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Russia and India.
India-Russia relations can get a new direction
Putin’s visit is expected to strengthen trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. During India’s BRICS chairmanship, issues like trade, digital technology, financial cooperation, energy security and reforms in global governance have been emphasized.
Issues like Global Supply Chain, Cross-Border Payments, Greater Use of Local Currency, MSME Development, Digital Trade and Artificial Intelligence can also be discussed in this summit.
Tight security in Delhi for Putin
Strict security arrangements have been made in Delhi in view of the visit of the Russian President. Multiple levels of security have been deployed at their place of stay in the Chanakyapuri area.
Delhi Police officials including one DCP and two ACPs have been deployed in 24-hour security.
The meeting between Modi and Putin is taking place at a time when leaders of many countries, including China, will be present at the BRICS summit. Therefore, the meeting between the two leaders is being considered important in terms of global diplomatic equations apart from India-Russia relations.
