Internet blackout for 57 days! Iran in world’s longest ‘digital crisis’ due to war
Iran in digital crisis due to war. On February 28, the Iranian government shut down internet services nationwide after a joint attack by Israel and the United States on the ground in Iran. In this situation, internet blackout is going on in the country for the last 57 days. According to the International Internet Watchdog, this is the longest national-level internet blackout by a country in world history.
As reported by NetBlocks, anti-government protests in various parts of Iran had temporarily shut down the Internet since January before the war began. A total blackout was declared by the administration after the start of the war. Due to which digital access is completely stopped for more than 9 crore people of this country. This is a world record for internet shutdown. But this incident is not a matter of pride at all. According to NetBlocks, the humanitarian and economic impact of this censorship continues to grow.
Experts claim that if this deadlock continues for a long time, it may have a serious impact on Iran’s economy and social structure.
According to Netblox’s report, Sudan previously held the record for the longest internet shutdown. Internet was closed here for 36 days due to civil war. However, in countries like Myanmar, Ethiopia, internet services were also closed step by step for several months. However, the record of internet service shutdown for 57 consecutive days is now held by Iran. There are also doubts about when the service will be launched. Experts claim that if this deadlock continues for a long time, it may have a serious impact on Iran’s economy and social structure.
It should be noted that Iran has been war-torn for almost 2 months. America and Iran held a meeting mediated by Pakistan to restore peace in the Middle East, but no solution came out of that meeting. After the declaration of ceasefire between the two countries, the possibility of a second round of meeting was created, but in the end it collapsed. In this situation, the vermilion cloud of war has begun to peep in the sky of Iran. All in all, there is no possibility for the country’s internet service to be launched for now.
