Out of playoffs in IPL 2026, but MI and KKR will get big advantage in IPL 2027! RR also included in the list
IPL Replacement Player Rule: The league phase of IPL 2026 is over and now preparations for the playoff matches have started. Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals have made it to the playoffs. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals are going to get big benefits for IPL 2027. The reason for this is related to the players who were included by the teams as replacements.
Three franchises took important decisions
After some players got injured in the last phase of IPL 2026, the teams included new players in the squad. Mumbai Indians added Mahipal Lomror and Ruchit Ahir to the team in place of Quinton de Kock and Raj Bawa. Whereas Rajasthan Royals included Imanjot Chahal in the squad in place of Ravi Singh.
Apart from this, Kolkata Knight Riders also took a big step and decided to include Luvneet Sisodia in the team in place of Mathisha Pathirana. These changes may now impact the retention process for the next season as well.
IPL 2027 will get benefit in retention
According to BCCI rules, if a player gets injured on or before the team’s 12th match, his replacement player can be considered eligible for the retention process for the next season. This means that the players included as replacements can also be retained in the team before the next IPL season.
In such a situation, players signed by Mumbai Indians, KKR and Rajasthan Royals may get a chance to be retained in IPL 2027.
Such a case has come up before too
This rule has been used before also. Last season, Chennai Super Kings included Dewald Brevis in the team in place of Gurjanpreet Singh. Later the franchise also retained him for the next season. After this example it became clear that replacement players can also become a permanent part of the team in future.
Franchises gave timely information
Although these teams officially signed the players after the 12th match, but according to IPL officials, the injury information was already given to the league management. For this reason, these players will be considered eligible for IPL 2027 retention under the rules. Due to this, the respective franchises can get additional benefit in future team strategy.
