The mini auction of IPL 2027 will be held on December 16 in Goa. This will be a one-day auction in which all the franchises will bid on players as per their requirement. After receiving the final list of retention and release, the list of players who have registered for the auction will be made available to all the teams by the IPL management. After this, the franchises will shortlist the preferred players after assessing the weaknesses and needs of their team. The final list of players and their set order will also be informed to the teams about a week before the auction. This will help franchisees prepare their bidding strategy.
Before the mini auction, the process of exchange of players has also started. So far, two big trades have come to light which include Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Delhi Capitals have included their former captain Rishabh Pant back in the team from Lucknow Super Giants. Under this trade, left arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav has become a part of Lucknow Super Giants. Apart from this, Delhi Capitals has traded fast bowler T Natarajan with Sunrisers Hyderabad. In this deal, Hyderabad has sent leg spinner Zeeshan Ansari with Delhi Capitals. These changes have further increased the curiosity of cricket fans about the upcoming auction.
However, the official schedule for the entire season of IPL 2027 has not been released yet. Earlier, IPL had given information about the possible organizing period for the next three seasons in 2024. According to that plan, the 2027 tournament was to be held between March 14 and May 30. But after the BCCI Annual General Meeting, Board Secretary Devjit Saikia had indicated that the start of the upcoming season could be around the last week of March. In such a situation, now everyone's eyes are on the official dates of the tournament.
The IPL 2027 mini auction will be the last mini auction of the current auction cycle. After this, a mega auction will be conducted before the 2028 season. This mega auction will also be special because it will mark the beginning of the new media rights cycle of IPL. In the year 2022, the media rights of IPL were sold for Rs 48390.5 crore, which made this league one of the most valuable sports competitions in the world. Now the retention deadline of 17th November and the mini auction of 16th December will decide which franchise is successful in building the strongest team in the upcoming season.
