Face to face in Hormuz, how conflict was avoided between America and Iran
Iran-America Tension: on saturday islamabad Just as peace talks were about to begin, an incident in the Strait of Hormuz almost derailed the fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran. Due to this, the important talks going on under the mediation of Pakistan also started to be in danger.
Meanwhile, two warships of the US Navy passed through the Strait of Hormuz, when the leaders of America and Iran were talking in Islamabad to end the six-week war in West Asia. This move was seen by Washington as a challenge to Iran’s claim to control Hormuz. US President Donald Trump also claimed on his Truth social account that America is now cleaning up Hormuz.
What did CENTCOM say?
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) later confirmed that two Navy guided missile destroyer ships conducted the operation to remove sea mines in Hormuz, so that the movement of ships could be safe.
According to a CENTCOM statement, “USS Frank E. Peterson (DDG 121) and USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112) conducted operations in the Arabian Sea area while passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The purpose of this was to remove sea mines that were previously laid by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
What did Iran say?
Information about this incident was given to the Iranian officials present in Islamabad, after which they immediately asked Pakistan to ask America to withdraw its ships within 30 minutes, otherwise it may have to face attack from IRGC.
After this, tensions increased further in the waters of Hormuz, when IRGC forces repeatedly warned American warships to turn back or face consequences. A radio conversation recorded by crew members of a nearby civilian ship and reported by the Wall Street Journal shows the confrontation. “This is the last warning, this is the last warning,” Iranian forces warned.
What did the American ships say?
In response, the American ship said, “We are passing under international law. We do not intend to challenge you and we are following our government’s ceasefire rules.” Earlier there were reports that the American ships turned back, but later the Wall Street Journal confirmed that they passed through Hormuz without informing Iran.
Is there any solution to Iran-US talks?
CENTCOM also said in its statement that in the coming days, American forces, including underwater drones, will join the cleanup operation. Ultimately, no concrete agreement could be reached from the talks held in Islamabad. After the talks ended, US Vice President JD Vance said, “The bad news is that we could not reach an agreement – and I think this is more bad news for Iran than for America. We are returning to America without an agreement.”
