The world’s most important oil lifeline has been blocked again! | Iran Closes Strait of Hormuz Again as US Launches Fresh Strikes

Iran has once again announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important sea routes. The decision was taken after a warning shot fired by the Iranian military reportedly hit a ship which was not following the authorized sea route as per Iran. After this incident, a new crisis has arisen on the already fragile ceasefire agreement between America and Iran.

Has America started attacks again?

Shortly after the incident, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had launched a third round of military strikes against Iran. According to Iran’s government media, powerful explosions occurred in the cities of Bandar Abbas and Sirik situated on the banks of the Strait of Hormuz. The US Army said that it is continuously weakening Iran’s military capabilities through which it can attack civilian and commercial ships passing through the sea route.

According to CENTCOM, a Cypriot-flagged container ship was the victim of an Iranian attack. The ship’s engine room was seriously damaged in this attack and a civilian crew member of the ship has gone missing.

Had America already warned?

US officials in Washington had already made it clear that unless the Strait of Hormuz is secured, it would not be possible to carry forward negotiations on the agreement reached last month to end the war. Officials also said they wanted Iran to publicly assure the security of the sea route.

Did Iran not heed the warning?

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) claimed that several ships ignored its warnings and instructions and did not return to their authorized routes. According to the IRGC, one such ship was fired upon as a warning, after which it stopped. Iran said that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until further orders. He also warned that if there were more attacks on it, it could also target “additional enemy positions” in the area.

What answer did America give?

About an hour after Iran’s announcement, America informed about new military attacks. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth wrote on social media, “Iran took a wrong decision. Now it will have to pay the price.”

Talks between Oman and Iran

Before the latest developments, a meeting of the foreign ministers of Iran and Oman was held on Saturday. In this meeting, the Strait of Hormuz situated between the two countries was discussed. Oman said that both the countries have agreed to continue talks at the technical and political level on the issue of the sea route. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said he discussed with his Omani counterpart appropriate arrangements to ensure the safe movement of ships.

What did Mojtoba Khamenei say?

Issuing his first public statement since the start of the war, Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said that the assassination of his father Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28 in the initial attacks of the war would be avenged. In a statement broadcast on state television, he said this is the wish of the entire Iranian nation and it will definitely be fulfilled. This statement came at a time when US President Donald Trump had warned of more missile attacks on Iran.

What do both countries have to say on the Strait of Hormuz?

The world has considered the Strait of Hormuz as an international sea route for many decades. However, since the beginning of the war, Iran has said that it will have control over this waterway and has the right to collect fees from ships passing through it. At the same time, America advises ships to take the southern route through Oman’s territorial waters.
