Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi went to New York last week to participate in the United Nations General Assembly. During this, Iranian officials held indirect talks with American representatives. Apart from this, meetings were also held with mediators from Qatar and Pakistan. At the Iranian cabinet meeting, Araghchi informed about his visit to New York and the talks held there. He also told about Iran's conditions related to reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. These conditions were conveyed to America through intermediaries.
Araghchi indicated last week that Tehran could reopen the Strait of Hormuz within a week if the US lifts the blockade of Iranian ports, releases Iran's frozen assets and relaxes sanctions on the sale of Iranian oil.
US President Donald Trump publicly rejected this proposal. Trump had said that Iran is trying to reach an agreement because it is suffering badly in the war and its offer is not acceptable. Despite this, according to officials, mediators are continuing to try to reach an agreement between the US and Iran.
