Iran Update: Khamenei’s mourning ends in Iran, tension increases again between America and Iran, Trump gives big warning
The national mourning in Iran for Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei ended on Friday, 10 July 2026. Now Iran’s entire focus is on diplomacy, but the increasing tension with America has heated up the atmosphere again. Military attacks between the two countries have resumed, causing an atmosphere of fear in the entire region.

Ali Khamenei was killed in a joint air strike by the US and Israel on 28 February 2026. After this incident, a major conflict started between America, Israel and Iran. Khamenei was buried at the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad on 9 July 2026. His son Mujtaba Khamenei was appointed Supreme Leader on 8 March 2026, but has not yet appeared in public. It is being told that he had suffered serious injuries on his face in the same air attack, due to which concerns about the leadership are increasing.
War breaks out again between America and Iran
A fragile ceasefire had been in place in mid-June, but in the last 48 hours it has completely broken down. America launched new air strikes on many targets in Iran. In response, Iran attacked American military bases in Middle East countries and commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
US President Donald Trump made it clear on Friday that the ceasefire is now over. Trump has warned that if Iran attacks the ships again, the US will carry out even more serious attacks, although he also said that negotiations with Iran will continue.
Diplomacy and internal strife
Tammy Bruce, US deputy representative to the UN, said on Friday that talks would be successful only if Iran followed its basic responsibilities. On the other hand, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has talked over phone with the army chiefs of Oman, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan to reduce tension.
Technical negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program are still going on. However, a source associated with Iran’s negotiating team refuted the American media reports and said that there will be no talks until the Trump administration fulfills its promises. Meanwhile, differences are also emerging within Iran. Hardline leader Saeed Jalil has openly sought revenge for Khamenei’s death, raising fears of a split among the new leadership.
