‘Iran will respond militarily’: Tehran escalates warning amid Hormuz tensions

A senior lawmaker in Iran has warned that Tehran would respond militarily to any future naval blockade imposed by the United Statesescalating tensions amid growing confrontation over maritime security and oil shipments in the Gulf region.

The remarks come during a period of heightened military activity around the Strait of Hormuzone of the world’s most strategically important energy transit routes. Iranian officials have increasingly accused Washington of attempting to disrupt Iranian oil exports and pressure Tehran through maritime enforcement operations.

According to the statement, the Iranian MP said any future attempt by U.S. naval forces to blockade Iranian ports or restrict vessel movements would be met with direct military action from Iran’s armed forces.

The warning follows a series of escalating exchanges between Tehran and Washington over shipping activity, sanctions enforcement and alleged military operations near Iranian coastal waters. Iranian authorities have recently introduced stricter maritime regulations for vessels seeking passage through the Strait of Hormuz, while U.S. officials have spoken about expanded enforcement measures targeting Iranian oil trade.

The Strait of Hormuz carries a significant portion of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, making any disruption in the area a major concern for international energy markets and commercial shipping operators.

Iranian officials have repeatedly stated that they consider unrestricted access to regional waters a national security issue. Tehran has also warned that pressure campaigns targeting its energy exports could destabilise maritime trade routes across the Gulf.

There was no immediate response from the United States Department of Defense regarding the latest statement by the Iranian lawmaker.

Shipping companies and global energy traders are closely monitoring developments as concerns grow over the possibility of wider confrontation in the Gulf. Analysts say any direct clash involving naval forces in or near the Strait of Hormuz could significantly impact oil prices and regional security conditions.

The latest warning adds to mounting geopolitical tensions across the Middle East, where disputes involving sanctions, oil exports and maritime access continue to fuel uncertainty.

Diplomatic channels between Tehran and Washington remain under pressure amid ongoing disagreements over regional security and Iran’s energy trade activities.
