Iranians were disappointed due to the new Supreme Leader not attending Ali Khamenei’s funeral, kept waiting till the last moment!
New Delhi: A huge crowd gathered in Tehran on Monday, July 06 for the funeral of former Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. There were queues of people for several kilometers. Khamenei’s three sons Mustafa, Maisam and Massoud were seen crying as his coffin was brought to the Grand Mosque. But the most talked about was the absence of his fourth son Mojtaba Khamenei.
Women had the highest hopes
Disappointment was clearly visible among the women attending the funeral. One woman said that she kept waiting till the last moment for the namaz to start. Another woman among them also told, "I kept telling people around me that I wish Mojtaba Khamenei himself would come. This was our biggest wish. We hoped that Mojtaba would come and we would be able to see him. But he did not come." No public photo or video of Mojtaba Khamenei has surfaced yet.
Injured are said to be in the attack of 28th February.
According to reports, Mojtaba was seriously injured in the attack by America and Israel on February 28. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and many family members were killed in this attack. On April 11, Reuters quoted three close sources as saying that Mojtaba’s face was badly damaged in the attack.
He also suffered serious injuries to one or both of his legs, perhaps even having to have one leg amputated. Many people in his family were killed, including his wife Zahra Haddad Adel. There are also discussions on social media whether Mojtaba is alive after that attack. But there is no definite evidence for this.
Mojtaba has been made the new supreme leader
Mojtaba Khamenei was elected the new Supreme Leader on March 8, about 10 days after Khamenei’s death. On March 12, he sent the first written message which was read by a TV anchor. It talked about revenge. Since then dozens of Mojtaba’s messages have been released. But all the messages are read by the anchor on government TV only. Mojtaba himself was not seen anywhere in public.
What will happen next!
Now Khamenei’s mortal remains will be taken to Kom. Funeral services will be held there on Tuesday. According to the government official, the coffin will be taken to Kom by road in a special vehicle. On Wednesday the body will be airlifted to Najaf and Karbala in Iraq.
On Thursday, he will be brought back to Iran for another funeral procession in Mashhad. After this he will be buried near the shrine of a medieval Shia Imam. While millions of people came to the streets of Tehran to bid farewell to Khamenei, many people hoping to catch a glimpse of the new leader Mojtaba returned disappointed.
