The Congress high command has called both the leaders together to Delhi, after which many speculations are being made in the political circles. The long standing tussle within the party now seems to be coming out openly and it is believed that a big decision may be taken in Karnataka Congress in the coming days.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah himself confirmed that he has been called for the meeting by the Congress high command. He told that AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal called and gave the time and date of the meeting, although he was not told the agenda of the meeting. Despite this, there is a strong discussion in political circles that this meeting is not just formal but can be very important. On the other hand, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar has also reached Delhi. For the last several months, his supporters have been raising the demand to make him the Chief Minister.
Cabinet reshuffle also discussed
Not only a change in leadership, but also a major change in the state cabinet is being expected. Siddaramaiah had recently indicated after completion of three years in office that keeping in mind the 2028 assembly elections, there is a need to bring new energy in the government and the organization. For this reason, cabinet reshuffle can be seriously considered. It is being told that many MLAs and MLCs have reached Delhi. These also include those leaders who have been hoping for ministerial post for a long time.
Growing concern among Congress leaders
Many senior Congress leaders believe that the ongoing discussions regarding leadership are affecting the image of the government. There is a clear concern within the party that if a decision is not taken soon, it may impact the upcoming elections. For this reason, many leaders want that the high command should now take a clear stand on this issue. According to sources, some ministers considered close to the Chief Minister have also reached Delhi. These include big names like Satish Jarkiholi, G Parameshwara and HC Mahadevappa.
Political sources say that not only leadership change but also Rajya Sabha elections can be discussed in the meeting. Elections are to be held on four Rajya Sabha seats from Karnataka and Congress is considered to be in a position to win three seats. In such a situation, the high command can also prepare a strategy regarding the selection of candidates and political balance. At present no official indication has been given by the Congress leadership.
