Is the engine overheating in summer? Then use these tips…

It is now common for temperatures to cross 40°C once summer sets in in India. At such a time, not only the people, but also the engine of the car gets a lot of stress. Many people experience the problem of engine overheating especially while driving continuously in traffic or during long drives. If not taken care of on time, the engine performance may decrease, the vehicle may stop suddenly or may incur heavy mechanical expenses.

That is why it is important to know some important things to avoid engine overheating in summer.

Check coolant regularly

Coolant plays the most important role in keeping the engine cool. Many people use only water, but without coolant, the engine will not cool properly. Check that the coolant level is not low. Replace the old coolant on time. Use only company-recommended coolant. This minor maintenance can extend engine life.

Keep the radiator clean

If dust, mud or garbage accumulates on the radiator, the heat does not come out properly. So the engine heats up. Keep radiator fins clean. Check for leakage. Check whether the radiator fan is working properly. Overheating can quickly increase if the fan shuts off in traffic.

Change engine oil on time

Engine oil works to reduce friction in the engine. Old or low oil can cause the engine to overheat. Check oil level regularly. Use proper grade of engine oil. Do not delay servicing. Fresh engine oil keeps the engine smoother and cooler.

Avoid excessive use of AC

If the AC is continuously running on high cooling in summer, there is additional load on the engine. This is especially noticeable in traffic. Keep AC temperature as needed. Ventilate the cabin first. Avoid extremely low temperatures. This reduces the stress on the engine.

If you are a new driver, remember ‘these’ things while driving or you will be in trouble!

Do not ignore the temperature gauge

The temperature meter on the dashboard is often ignored by drivers. But it is the first warning of overheating.
If the needle goes too high, stop the car immediately in a safe place. Keep the engine off for some time. Do not open the radiator cap immediately on a hot engine. A hasty mistake can be dangerous.

Take breaks in long drives

Continuous driving for hours increases the pressure on the engine. Take a short break every once in a while, especially in heavy traffic. Allow the engine to cool for a while. This is beneficial for both engine and driver.

Check belts and hoses

If the coolant hoses or belts are damaged, the cooling system is affected. Check for cracks or leakage. Replace old hoses on time. A small fault can turn into a major breakdown.

Although engine overheating is a common problem in summer, it can be easily avoided if proper care is taken. Regular servicing, coolant check and small changes in driving habits make the car safer and more reliable. After all, the engine is the heart of the car. If it is properly taken care of, the journey becomes smoother, safer and tension-free.
