Is your thirst still unquenched despite drinking plenty of water? Are you, too, making these 4 major mistakes this summer? Thirst not being quenched even after drinking a lot of water? Are you also making these 4 big mistakes in summer? – ..
In this season of scorching sun, humidity and exhausting heat, sweat keeps flowing from the body continuously. In such a situation, it is most important to keep yourself hydrated. But does it also happen to you that you gulp down several glasses of water one after the other, yet the dryness in your throat does not go away? If yes, then you need to be careful. Actually, thirst caused due to extreme heat and sunlight cannot be quenched by just drinking plain water. Knowingly or unknowingly, people make 4 such serious mistakes while drinking water, due to which even after drinking a lot of water, neither thirst is quenched, headache is not cured nor the body gets freshness. According to Ayurvedacharya Umang, special rules for drinking water have been prescribed in Ayurveda for summer season. Let us know about those mistakes related to water which are causing harm instead of benefit to you.
gulping ice cold water straight from the fridge
As soon as 90 percent of the people come from outside in summer, the first and biggest mistake they make is that they directly take out the bottle from the fridge and drink cold water. This cold water definitely gives relief to the throat and mouth for a few moments, but it is not absorbed properly in your cells, due to which the lack of water in the body does not go away. According to Ayurveda, extremely cold water calms our ‘digestive fire’, which leads to poor digestion. Medical science also believes that the body has to spend its extra energy to bring this cold water to normal body temperature (37 degrees Celsius). According to research, ordinary or pot water is more effective in quenching thirst than refrigerator water.
Focus on drinking only plain water
When the weather is normal then plain water works best, but in extreme heat drinking only plain water is the second biggest mistake. When the body sweats heavily, not only water but also essential minerals like sodium, potassium and magnesium are lost from the body. In such a situation, the deficiency of these electrolytes cannot be compensated by drinking just plain water. It is said in Ayurveda that to keep the body hydrated during the summer season, one should consume foods rich in natural electrolytes, which can retain water in the body.
drink a lot of water in one go
Many people drink 2 to 3 glasses of water in a single breath when they feel thirsty. If you also do this, your thirst will never be quenched. By drinking a lot of water at once, it goes out directly through the kidneys instead of reaching the cells. Not only this, due to sudden increase in the amount of water in the blood, sodium starts getting diluted, due to which the body starts feeling lethargy, tiredness and weakness. Ayurveda says that during summer days one should always drink water sip by sip and at short intervals only.
Trying to quench thirst with cold drinks and packaged juices
To get relief from the scorching sun, people often resort to cold drinks, soda or canned packaged juices. This is the most dangerous mistake. These drinks may seem cool and refreshing for some time, but they increase ‘Aam’ i.e. toxins (poisonous elements) in the body. To digest and process the refined sugar present in them, our cells have to absorb water from the rest of the body. The result is that after drinking cold drinks, your body becomes more dehydrated from within.
Great option to quench your thirst and stay fresh in summer.
If you want your body to remain cool from inside in summer and not feel thirsty again and again, then instead of relying only on plain water, include these things in your diet:
-
Water from earthen pot: It is naturally cold and alkaline, which is like nectar for health.
-
Coconut Water and Lemon Water: These provide essential vitamins and minerals to the body immediately.
-
Sattu Drink and Buttermilk: Along with keeping the stomach cool, it also protects from heat stroke.
-
Gulkand sherbet and poppy water: Both these things are considered best in Ayurveda to cool down the internal heat of the body.
