ISL preview: Punjab FC vs Mumbai City FC in New Delhi

New Delhi, 19 October 2026: Punjab FC face Mumbai City FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Monday, looking to build on a winning start to their MG Indian Super League 2026-27 campaign. Kick-off is at 7.30pm IST.

Raphaël Messi Bouli scored in the first minute and again in stoppage time as Punjab beat Odisha FC 2-1 in their opener, giving head coach Pavlos Dermitzakis three points in his first match in charge.

Mumbai City arrive after a 2-1 defeat to Churchill Brothers in Goa.

Dermitzakis plays down Punjab’s start

The Greek coach was quick to dismiss the idea that the opening win gives his side an edge. He said “there is no advantage for any team” at this stage of the season, with all the clubs still working to build their identity.

Dermitzakis also warned that Punjab must be careful against Mumbai. After Monday’s game, Punjab play three league matches in a row away from home, so a good result here matters. He admitted that limited recovery time had made preparation difficult.

Márquez calls for patience

Mumbai head coach Manolo Márquez said one bad result does not decide a season. “It’s not how you start, it’s always how you finish the season,” he said.

Mumbai created early chances against Churchill Brothers but could not turn their possession into goals, and conceded twice in the second half.

Details could decide it

Mumbai defender Carlos Delgado watched Punjab’s win over Odisha and praised their attacking play. He said Mumbai must stay compact, compete for second balls and win their individual duels.

“The games will be equal, very tough for both,” Delgado said, adding that the result could come down to a small detail.

Recent history

The two sides met in New Delhi in May this year, when Mumbai City won 2-0. Valpuia and Vikram Partap Singh scored late after Punjab were reduced to nine players.

Monday’s match gives Punjab a chance to respond to that defeat on the same ground and to make it two wins from two. For Mumbai, a win would put their season back on track after the setback in Goa.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live on the Sony Sports Network and streamed on Sony LIV, with free streaming on YouTube.
