Israel rejects New York Times report on ‘conspiracy to assassinate Iranian leaders’, calls claim fake

New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing tension between America, Iran and Israel, a new report has created a stir at the international level. It was claimed in the American media that Israel could have targeted two senior Iranian leaders. However, now Israel has given a strong reply to this claim and called it completely false and baseless. The Israeli government says that such news has no connection with actual events.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has completely rejected the report published in the American newspaper New York Times. In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, it was said that the news published about the Iranian negotiators is completely fabricated and the claims made in it have no basis. The statement also said that this type of report is an attempt to spread wrong information and there is no reason to take it seriously.

What was claimed in the report?

According to the New York Times report, US officials feared that Israel might target Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf during the ongoing indirect peace talks between the US and Iran. The report also claimed that America had tried to send a message to Iran through some countries in the Middle East that there could be a possible threat to the security of its senior leaders. This information was given in the news quoting some current and former American officials.

Why was America worried?

According to the report, American officials believed that if any big leader of Iran is attacked during the talks, then the ongoing talks between the two countries could come to a complete halt. America also feared that after such an incident, military tension in the region could increase once again and the situation could become more serious than before. For this reason, America was allegedly trying to avoid any possible risk.

How far have the talks reached between America and Iran?

Recently, another round of indirect talks was completed between the representatives of America and Iran in Doha, the capital of Qatar. However, no major agreement or decisive progress was announced after this meeting. According to sources, the main focus of the talks was on some already decided issues. These included topics like maintaining normal maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and unfreezing some of Iran’s financial assets. Both sides discussed these issues, but no final agreement was revealed.

Next meeting after the funeral

According to Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, the next meeting between the US and Iran will be held after the funeral of Iran’s late supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that during the talks held in Doha, a positive atmosphere was seen on some topics. He said that further talks will be taken forward on the basis of earlier meetings and previously agreed points.
