Rahul Gandhi going back on his word is unfortunate and contrary to every dignity of democracy: Jitendra Singh
New Delhi. Political uproar is increasing across the country regarding the issue of NEET paper leak and lathi charge on students. Opposition leaders in the Lok Sabha, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, sat on a dharna outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence (7, Lok Kalyan Marg). Opposition leaders are demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on the issue of paper leak. In this unprecedented development, amidst the Congress protest, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh himself came to talk to Rahul Gandhi but his conversation remained inconclusive. There was a discussion between the two leaders for several minutes, but Rahul Gandhi rejected the government’s compromise proposal outright.

After this, Minister of State Jitendra Singh wrote on Social Media Keeping in mind the dignity of this senior party, the government sent me and the Union Home Secretary, Govind Mohan along with me, to the spot to talk to these senior leaders.

Rahul Gandhi was requested to end his dharna, because this place is not a place for dharna, and the dharna here is causing a lot of inconvenience to the common people. Rahul Gandhi ji put forth the demand that if the government agrees to discuss all the issues related to NEET and its related movement in the Parliament, then he will end his protest immediately. Within moments of seeking permission from the top leadership of the government, Rahul Gandhi was assured that his demand has been accepted, and the government is ready to discuss in Parliament all issues related to NEET and its related movement.
He further wrote, when this information was conveyed to Rahul Gandhi ji, he said that he would not only accept this but also wanted the assurance of the resignation of the Union Education Minister. He said that now I have two demands: discussion in Parliament and resignation of the Union Education Minister. When he was reminded that earlier he had only demanded discussion, he said that now his demands have changed. When an attempt was made to politely explain to him that it does not suit a senior leader like him to go back on his words so quickly, he said that it was his choice. When the Home Secretary tried to explain that this place was not suitable for holding a dharna, his reply was that it is also their choice where they sit.
It is unfortunate for a senior leader and leader of opposition like Rahul Gandhi to go back on his word and is against every dignity of democracy. The government is ready to discuss in Parliament all the issues related to NEET and its related movement. On the contrary, till date the Congress Party has not given any notice for formal discussion on this serious issue as per rules. Rahul Gandhi’s behavior does not match the principles of democracy.
