Donald Trump seems desperate to impose tariffs on India. But this time the US President is going to face a setback in his own country on that issue. It is learned that 25 states of America have filed a lawsuit against the president. Each state is ruled by Democrats. They allege that the US Supreme Court has already declared Trump’s tariff policy illegal. Despite this, Trump is imposing tariffs on multiple countries as he pleases.
A lawsuit was filed against Trump in the New York Commercial Court on Monday. It is alleged that Trump is imposing tariffs in a roundabout way by ignoring the court’s ruling. Section 301 of the law has been used so far for certain countries that do business unethically. But Trump’s tariffs are damaging America’s overall import system. Trump is trying to enforce the tariff policy that the US court has already rejected once, the Democratic-ruled states of Barack Obama-Joe Biden filed a lawsuit.
A few days ago, the US administration announced that new tariffs have been imposed under Section 301 of the US Trade Act. This new tariff is being imposed on countries that have not enacted appropriate laws to prevent the production of goods through forced labor. From now on, a 10 percent tax will be imposed on Indian products. America has decided to impose new tariffs on 60 countries for not taking action against forced labor. Along with India, the list includes countries like China, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, and Switzerland.
This is not the end, the US administration is also considering imposing a separate 100 percent tariff on Indian products. America has recently started the process of passing a new law. The meaning of this law is to impose huge tariffs on all countries that are still importing energy resources from Russia. India has been a major buyer of Russian oil for a long time. However, Trump’s Republican party has a majority in the US Senate. This bill may be passed there.
