JLR Recalls 170K SUVs – Read
Jaguar Land Rover has announced a major safety recall in the United States, affecting more than 170,000 vehicles, after regulators identified a defect that could lead to sudden loss of drive power.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrationthe recall covers 170,169 vehicles across several popular models sold under the Land Rover brand. The issue centers around a failure in the DC-DC converter, a critical component responsible for charging the vehicle’s 12-volt electrical system.
What Caused the Recall?
The regulator said a malfunctioning DC-DC converter may prevent the 12-volt battery system from charging properly. If that happens, the vehicle could lose key electrical functions and eventually suffer a complete loss of drive power.
That means affected vehicles may unexpectedly stop operating while in use, increasing the risk of accidents. In some cases, exterior lighting systems could also fail, reducing visibility for other drivers and creating an added safety concern.
For modern vehicles packed with electronics, the 12-volt system plays an important supporting role. Even in hybrid and advanced models, it powers many essential systems needed for safe operation.
Models Included in the Recall
The recall impacts multiple Jaguar Land Rover vehicles, including:
- Range Rover
- Range Rover Sport
- Discovery
- Defender
Additional variants and production years may also be included under the broader campaign.
These are among the brand’s best-known SUVs in the U.S. market, making the recall one of the larger recent actions involving premium utility vehicles.
Fix is still in Development
At the moment, Jaguar Land Rover has not yet released a final repair solution. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the remedy is still under development.
Once the fix is finalized, owners of affected vehicles are expected to receive official notification letters with instructions on when and where to schedule repairs at authorized dealerships.
Typically, recall repairs are completed free of charge.
What Owners Should Do Now
Drivers who own one of the listed models should watch for updates from Jaguar Land Rover and check their vehicle identification number through official recall databases once the campaign becomes fully active.
If warning lights appear, electrical systems behave unusually, or charging-related alerts show up, owners should arrange an inspection as soon as possible.
Bigger Picture for Automakers
Vehicle recalls tied to electronic systems have become more common as cars grow increasingly software-driven and electrically complex. Components that once played a background role can now affect steering, lighting, charging, and drivability.
For Jaguar Land Rover, this recall is likely to draw close attention in a competitive luxury SUV market where reliability matters as much as design and performance. For owners, the key message is simple: stay informed and respond quickly when repair notices arrive.
