The most-awaited film Jailer 2‘s trailer is out, and while most of the conversation has been about Rajinikanth’s larger-than-life return as Muthuvel Pandian, one specific detail has taken over social media.
A blast sequence in the trailer shows the 75-year-old actor’s character blowing up a building in classic no-nonsense fashion.
But viewers have been fixating on something else, in one shot, Rajinikanth appears to be missing a finger.
A video highlighting the moment has been circulating widely, and the debate around it has split people into two camps.
Some think it is simply an unfinished VFX or masking issue that slipped through.
Others are convinced it is deliberate, that Muthuvel Pandian actually loses the finger during the course of the film and the shot is an early hint at the story. Neither side is willing to budge just yet.
Beyond the finger debate, the trailer does what it needs to, confirms that the Tamil superstar is back in full force, with director Nelson Dilipkumar promising a bigger action canvas.
Several familiar faces return, including Shiva Rajkumar, Mohanlal and Jackie Shroff.
Vidya Balan joins the franchise as a new character named Kantha. SJ Suryah, Yogi Babu and VTV Ganesh also feature. Hrithik Roshan has been linked to the film but his appearance has not been officially confirmed.
Jailer 2 releases on October 15. The makers have skipped the usual grand audio launch and instead opted for a rare three-hour primetime television interview with Rajinikanth shortly before release.
