New Delhi: Terrorists once again shed blood in Kulgam, South Kashmir, on Friday evening. Two migrant laborers working at a brick kiln in the Kelam area were shot. One laborer from Chhattisgarh was killed in the attack, while the other was seriously injured.
Firing at brick kiln
According to officials, the incident occurred late Friday evening in the Kelam area of Kulgam. The terrorists targeted migrant laborers working at a brick kiln. The two workers, who were seriously injured in the attack, were immediately rushed to the hospital. Deepak, a resident of Chhattisgarh, died before reaching the hospital.
The other worker, Bhupinder, also from Chhattisgarh, has been referred to the General Hospital in Anantnag in critical condition. Security forces arrived at the scene upon receiving information about the attack. A search operation has been launched, cordoning off the entire area.
A police officer was murdered in Anantnag 10 days ago.
The attack comes less than 10 days after the killing of a police officer in Anantnag town. The continued targeting of migrant laborers and security personnel points to increased terrorist activity in South Kashmir.
Manoj Sinha strongly condemned
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha strongly condemned the cowardly attack. He wrote on X, “I condemn this cowardly act. I have directed the security forces to intensify the operation and eliminate the terrorists.”
Sinha stated that he had spoken to DGP Nalin Prabhat and other senior officials. The injured worker was provided immediate medical treatment. He expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Political parties also expressed anger
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti called the attack “unimaginably brutal.” She said the workers had come far from home to earn a living for their families. Her party president, Altaf Bukhari, called the attack “tragic and inhumane.” He demanded the strictest punishment for the perpetrators.
The People’s Conference also condemned the attack, saying that targeting innocent civilians was highly deplorable. All parties expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Security agencies believe such attacks are being carried out to intimidate outsiders and sow unrest in the valley. A heightened alert has been placed across Kulgam.
