Janhvi Kapoor recreates Sridevi’s iconic Nagina look for Halloween

Mumbai: Janhvi Kapoor brought a touch of Bollywood nostalgia to Halloween celebrations by recreating her mother Sridevi’s iconic look from the 1986 fantasy film Nagina. The actor shared a series of pictures on Instagram, paying tribute to one of Hindi cinema’s memorable films and its celebrated cast.

The recreation featured Janhvi dressed as Sridevi’s character Rajni, the shape-shifting serpent woman from the film. Her Halloween tribute also brought back the looks of two other actors from the original movie. Social media personality Orry recreated Rishi Kapoor’s look, while Janhvi’s friend Vaishnav Praveen stepped into the role originally played by Amrish Puri.

Janhvi explains her Halloween tribute

Sharing the pictures on Instagram, Janhvi wrote, “Happy Halloweeeeeny… had to recreate one of the most iconic movie moments everrrrr…”

Explaining why she chose the look, the actor reflected on how Halloween costumes have increasingly drawn inspiration from popular films, characters and memorable moments in entertainment.

“So much of Halloween has become about dressing up as your favourite characters and pop culture moments. Sometimes they’re spooky, sometimes they’re funny, and sometimes it’s a tribute,” she wrote.

Janhvi also acknowledged the three performers who inspired the recreation, adding, “And who could possibly be more iconic than Mumma, Rishi uncle and Amrish sir!!”

She concluded her caption by thanking those who helped bring the costumes together.

Khushi Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan react

The pictures received enthusiastic responses from members of the film fraternity and Janhvi’s family.

Her sister Khushi Kapoor was among the first to react, commenting, “You won Halloween,” accompanied by heart-eye emojis. Cousin Shanaya Kapoor and aunt Maheep Kapoor also responded with heart emojis.

Actors Kareena Kapoor Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Sanya Malhotra and Ananya Panday, along with filmmaker Zoya Akhtar, were among those who reacted to the post.

The response reflected the nostalgic appeal of Janhvi’s recreation, which brought together familiar faces and characters from a film remembered by generations of Hindi cinema audiences.

Revisiting Sridevi’s memorable role in Nagina

Released in 1986, Nagina featured Sridevi as Rajni, a woman who can transform into a serpent. Rishi Kapoor played a key role alongside her, while Amrish Puri portrayed the antagonist.

Directed by Harmesh Malhotra, the fantasy film became particularly memorable for Sridevi’s performance, screen presence and dance sequences. Its supernatural storyline and visual treatment helped establish it as one of the notable fantasy entertainers of its time.

The song Main Teri Dushman, Dushman Tu Mera remains closely associated with the film and is among its most recognisable musical moments. Sridevi’s performance in the song, featuring the iconic serpent-dance sequence, continues to be remembered as a significant part of her screen legacy.

Janhvi’s choice of costume was therefore more than a Halloween appearance. By recreating her mother’s look and bringing back the characters played by Rishi Kapoor and Amrish Puri, she revisited a film that holds a special place in popular Hindi cinema.

The post also offered a personal tribute to Sridevi, whose performances continue to influence audiences and remain part of the family’s cinematic legacy. The recreation brought a much-loved film moment back into the spotlight, with Janhvi giving the classic characters a fresh appearance for Halloween.
